News Updates From The Ministry of Health, Gombe.

Dearest friends and followers,
I promised you a good read and I hope you enjoyed my article on the ‘Preventive, promotive and Rehabilitative function of the Ministry of Health, Gombe’.  In this article, I just want to update you on the affairs of the ministry of health the past week. Let us hear from you for we are here to serve you…ok?
Updates From Dr. Ishaya Kennedy

So here we go….
As I mentioned in my preceding post, a case of lasser fever has been detected in the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe in a referral patient from Taraba. Lassa viral hemorrhagic fever is an acute illness of 1-4 weeks duration that occurs in West Africa. Lassa fever occurs in all age groups and in both men and women. Persons at greatest risk are those living in rural areas, especially in areas of poor sanitation or crowded living conditions. Prevention of Lassa fever in the community is possible if people will focus on promoting good “community hygiene” to discourage rodents from entering homes. Effective measures include storing grain and other foodstuffs in rodent-proof containers, disposing of garbage far from the home, maintaining clean households and keeping cats. Well, samples of the virus have been taken to the national laboratory for lasser detection in Enugu and we will do all we can in collaboration to the FMC, Gombe to prevent the spread of this virus.
 In another development;
The executive governor of Gombe state, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, in his concern for the health of Women and Children in the state has approved the building of the Women and Children centre in Tudun-Wada, Gombe. The centre which is the first of its kind in the State will carter solely to the most vulnerable citizens of the state, the women and children.  Next week, application and contractors’ bidding will start by God’s grace. I’ll keep you posted on as this news unfolds.
The executive governor of Gombe state also approved the commencement of a department of bio-engineering. Like I stated in my post about the preventive and rehabilitative function of the ministry, the provision of prosthetics ad services of rehabilitation to amputees and people with troubled limbs is also a concern of the administration. Till date, there has not been a department that concerns itself with this in the ministry of health; Gombe and the commencement of this bio-engineering department will carter solely to such cases.
In his dedication to the health of the people of the state, the governor, Alh Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has agreed to receive the polio-eradication torch himself. Hopefully, through this gesture, Gombe State will squarely address the issue of polio. Our aim is to completely eradicate this disabling disease that has reduced the productivity of many of our youths.
And Lastly,
The commissioners of all ministries of Health in the North gathered in Abuja last week to discuss how to deliver quality healthcare to the people of their states. In my next post, I’ll upload a picture album of this meeting.
Thanks!
